Post Operative Tips for Breast Augmentation

After your breast augmentation surgery, ambulance you will experience some pain and swelling during the recovery process. Maybe even some nausea. How quickly you can minimize these after-effects will determine how quickly you can get back to your normal routine. These tips will help.

  • Have someone accompany you to the surgery center to drive you home after your procedure and stay with you for at least 24 (preferably 48) hours.
  • Reduce nausea by controlling your pain. Use the pain medications prescribed by your surgeon, rx and ask about the use of muscle relaxants and non-narcotic painkillers to further reduce discomfort. Be sure to take your pain meds with food.
  • Reduce the risk of developing blood clots in your legs by walking a few minutes every few hours.
  • Make sure you have plenty of comfy pillows to allow you to sleep sitting up. You need to sleep on your back or propped up for several nights following your surgery.
  • Use ice or gel packs to reduce swelling and discomfort. Make sure you freeze your gel packs flat, or you’ll have uncomfortable edges to contend with. You may find it’s more comfortable to use gel packs from the coldest part of the refrigerator, rather than freezing them.


Do not overdo it. Ask for help. Rest.
