Before I say how wonderful Dr. Francis is, I have to say that his skills in plastic surgeries are amazing. Last January I did breast augmentation surgery and I am very happy how I look. From the moment I arrived for the first consultation with Dr. Francis until today everything went easily. First, it was explained to me how the surgery is going to be performed, what to expect, and what are benefits and risks. Dr. Francis reassured me that there is no need for fear, which is I believe normal feeling is any kind of surgery. He always had a time to answer my questions, and I had many. From the first day I had a complete confidence in him. I had consultations with other doctors, but when I talked to Dr. Francis I knew that I am going to do the surgery with him. And that's one of the best decisions I have ever made. Others in his office are wonderful as well, from the front office, the nurses, and the anesthesiologist. Simply said, for the next plastic surgery I have doctor, Dr. Francis of course.

Dear Debbie,
Breast implants will likely not limit your physical activities in the long run. In the short term, i.e. during your healing, you will obviously be limited by some pain and whatever restrictions your surgeon imposes. Current generation implants have a life expectancy of 10-15 years on average, so there is a chance that you may need to someday replace or remove them. Good luck!

Dear Leslie,
It is generally agreed that breast implants will cause some compression effect on the native breast tissue causing it to become more dense in composition. This requires some adjustments for the radiologists performing mammography on patients with implants, but probably does not significantly impact the overall size of the breast. Good luck!

Dear noordinarygirl,
In general, breast augmentation surgery takes about 1 hour. In more difficult cases, the surgery could go to 1.5 or 2 hrs. It is rare to exceed 2 hours.

Dear Jamie,
On the contrary, breast implant patients have been shown to have lower incidences of breast cancer. But, don't get the wrong message. This is NOT because breast implants protect you from getting breast cancer. It is due to something known as selection bias. By screening our patients for personal or family history of breast cancer before recommending breast augmentation surgery we are actually pre-selecting out a population of women that were less likely to develop breast cancer in the first place.

Dear Spicy Carmen,
It is generally recommended for body builders to have their implants placed above the pectoral muscles. In the above muscle position there is much less chance of having "animation deformity", or shifting/distortion of the implant when the pectoral muscles are flexed. Also, the advent of the form stable, anatomic, tear drop shaped implants have made it possible to achieve much more natural results in the above muscle position without creating the dreaded "ball on the chest" look. Good luck!
